I'm Angel Valentín, and I'm running for reelection for the position of Wabash Township Trustee. My wife, Apoorva, and I are both Engineering graduates from Purdue University. Originally from Puerto Rico, I came to West Lafayette to attend Purdue, but decided to stay because I fell in love with our amazing community. My career in Greater Lafayette has been focused on serving our community. In addition to my work as the Wabash Township Trustee, I have worked with Wesley Foundation (a Methodist campus ministry at Purdue), Food Finders Food Bank, Lafayette Urban Ministry, and CityBus.
Over the last four years, I have worked diligently with our Township Board to make sure that Wabash Township is working for you. We have sought to invest in the Wabash Township Fire Department, so that it can effectively serve our growing service area in the unincorporated areas of our township. We recognized that our residents were facing slow ambulance response times, and decided to hire paramedics so we could operate a fire department-based ambulance service, which is improving patient outcomes by reducing the time it takes our residents to get to definitive care. We have also built up our Township Assistance program, so that we can better assist our neighbors in need as they struggle with rising rents, rising costs of energy, and a deepening affordability crisis.
The last four years have successfully demonstrated what an effective Township government can look like, but our work is not done. Today, Wabash Township and all local government units face financial headwinds as a result of our State Legislature and our Governor's efforts to shift the burden of taxes from corporations to working class families. Nevertheless, I remain committed to working collaboratively with local & state elected officials to ensure that our fire department has the tools and resources it needs to provide fire, EMS, and ambulance services to a rapidly growing service area. I also remain deeply focused on working with community partners to help address residents’ basic needs, and advocate for policies that will increase affordability, housing security, and lead to better outcomes for our residents.
I have worked diligently and advocated tirelessly for the residents of Wabash Township over the last four years, because I believe that you deserve a seat and a voice at the table; and I look forward to continuing to do so as your Wabash Township Trustee over this next four-year term. Please join me on this campaign today. I know that, together, we can build a brighter future for Wabash Township and Greater Lafayette!
